E.C.S.E. Preschool Program
Preschool
Program
The E.C.S.E. preschool program at
Cotaco Elementary serves children age 3-5 years in eastern Morgan
County who are experiencing difficulty in the following areas:
vision, hearing speech and language, motor skills or
learning. Any child in Morgan County may be referred for
screening if developmental delays are suspected. Parents,
family members, doctors or others may make referrals in the
community. Screening services are provided at no
charge. Preschool classes run Monday through Thursday from
8:00-11:00 or 12:00-3:00. A lead teacher, speech and language
pathologist, and two paraprofessionals work together to provide a
language-rich, structured environment where children can acquire
developmentally appropriate skills through play and small group
activities. If you have, or know of, a child experiencing
delays in development, please contact Kim Dahlem, Preschool
Coordinator at 309-2144

*Basic concepts will be
reviewed during the last two months to determine mastery and carry
over skills.
*Colors, shapes, numbers, and
counting skills are also addressed daily.
*The preschool teachers follow
the basic guideline listed above while working with the individual
needs of each student as stated in their Individualized Education
Program (IEP). Developmentally appropriate guidelines and the
Alabama Course of Study are used in planning classroom
activities. In addition to the communication and cognitive
skills listed above adaptive, personal-social and motor skills
are addressed daily throughout the classroom.
